Greenleaf Inpatient Unit accepts both voluntary and involuntary patients. Our admission office is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, including holidays. There are a variety of referral sources, including personal care physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, mental health providers, family and self referrals.
We operate a 24 hour crisis hotline for referrals and questions about mental health and substance abuse.

How long is the average stay?

For alcohol and benzodiazepine detox, length of stay is typically 3-5 days. We do offer a rehab program, which can last up to 30 days. Most mental health lasts between 4-6 days, with elderly patients and chronically mentally ill staying an average of 10-12 days.

Should I bring cash?

Adult patients are allowed to bring up to $10 dollars for vending machines. However, we do not allow adolescents to visit the vending machine area, so cash is unnecessary.

What do I need to leave at home?

  • Any electronics, including but not limited to, cell phones, PDA, hairdryer, MP3 players, TVs, laptops, radios
  • Knives, guns, or weapons of any kind
  • Lighters, candles, illicit drugs, alcohol
  • Outside food or beverages
  • Glass items
  • Cigarettes

Can I make telephone calls to my family and friends?

There are phones on every unit which patients may utilize to call collect. Adolescents are allowed to use the nurses’ phone once a day to call parents. Telephones are turned off during group times.

What can I bring with me?

  • Insurance card, ID cards, calling card (If your family is long-distance from Valdosta)
  • Name, address, phone number of current and previous therapists or doctors
  • List of all medications you are currently taking, including OTC and medicines you are allergic to.
  • Comfortable clothing for 3-5 days            
  • Jeans, sweat pants, t-shirts, pajamas, robes
  • Light jacket or sweatshirt as unit temperatures tend to be cooler
  • Bras must be worn appropriately
  • No bare midriff or inappropriately tight clothing
  • Shoes that are slip-on or Velcro closure are allowed
What activities are included in my hospital stay?

We have group therapy three times a day, daily meetings with your doctor and case manager, family therapy, and activity therapy.
